Dynami Psychis welcomes its newest members who joined the cause last Sunday at the Annual General Assembly

30 plus members gathered at the Grypareio last Sunday for the 2024 Annual General Assembly of Dynami Psychis, the Mykonos Cancer Association.
Association President Natasha Kami opened the session by welcoming all in attendance and sharing the financial report for the last three years.
The organization is cash rich and people poor compared with other cancer support organizations across Greece according to Kami. Dynami Psychis is kicking off the year with almost 15,000 Euros in its coffers, however, no one was willing to step forward for elections for a new term of board of directors. New members have joined but the organization’s bylaws require candidates standing for elections to registered for six months prior.
The General Assembly voted unanimously to delay elections until October, when new memberships would have matured in time to stand for elections.
Over the three-year period, Dynami Psychis received 35,000 euros in donations. All of these donations were used to supply travel and accommodation for patients and their caregivers that did not have the means to cover these costs. The organization paid for boat tickets and hotels and AiBnB accommodations, issuing vouchers for their use.
Donations come from families who ask mourners at a family member’s funeral to contribute to the Mykonos Cancer Association instead of flowers, others hold events and request donations and yet others make direct cash contributions.
The General Assembly also voted unanimously to make changes in membership and registration fees. Annual membership was cut from 25 Euros annually to 15 Euros. Registration was removed altogether. However, anyone wishing to contribute more than the 15 Euro annual fee was encourage to do so. The thinking behind this change is to make membership easy and affordable for everyone, since donations come in with great generosity.
Two programs currently in the planning stages, which have run in the past, are preventative screenings for both skin cancer and prostate cancer. Physicians conduct examinations for free by appointment at the health center looking at suspect moles or skin anomalies. Examinations of the prostate will also be conducted by appointment as well at the health center.
These free screenings have rendered positive results.
During the last round of prostrate screenings, out of 107 exams conducted, 2 cases were diagnosed, before they had progressed to untreatable stages.
Both sets of screenings are in the planning stages. As soon as dates are set, details for days and hours to make appointments will be announced.
Kami also noted that the current EDRA for the association is a member’s garage. It was suggested that a space with easier access and greater visibility be sought. The assembly asked Kami to team up with other philanthropic organizations on the island to request a space from the municipality that would be shared amongst the organizations.
Finally, Dynami Psychis will be organizing a Heart Pillow Stuffing party in March. Heart Pillows are used for mastectomy patients immediately following surgery to ease the pain and offer comfort as women recover. The event will take place at the Grypareio on Monday, March 4 from 11 am to 2 pm. Details will be forthcoming.
